The 34 best sights in Provincetown (2025)

Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch offers expertly guided tours of Cape Cod Bay and Stellwagen National Marine Sanctuary to see marine wildlife, including humpbacks whales and calves, finback whales, dolphins, basking sharks, sea turtles and pelagic birds. Group tours are a specialty.

Enjoyed our time with Dolphin Whale Watch crew 3 days into the season. We spotted so many whales. It was great to see the whales in their habitat unlike watching animals caged up in a zoo. The naturalist speaker was funny and engaging with the passengers. It was a sunny day but cold. Not a lot of ppl which was great since it was still early in the season. The parking was also free. Yay! The boat had three clean bathrooms and a snack bar. It was suppose to be a 3-hour ride departing at 2pm but we arrived closer to 6pm which was fine. Thank you so much for a fun and educational trip!

Had to choose between private charter and the bigger tour boat. As it turned out the private charter was funny booked so we took this. Can't have been much better pleased with three outcome. Had a great time and more importantly we saw plenty of whales - not much else mind you.Friendly staff and well narrated throughout the tour. Coupled with great weather conditions for sailing, we were blessed with great sightings.Be warned this isn't always the case, but they do have a see whale guarantee policy.Overall super happy with this experience and with the tour

We went the day after a hurricane came through. We were actually scheduled for the day of the hurricane but they contacted us in a timely manner and helped reschedule. They were very accommodating and easy to work with.Unfortunately it was a very calm day as far as whale activity goes, probably due to the hurricane . We still say at least 6 or 7 different whales, just from a little longer distance than we hoped for. They stayed out a little extra time as well to try and get a few good looks. I would totally do this one again. It was very well done and the grilled ham and cheese sandwich was really good. Idk why, but it just hit the spot. I would recommend this tour for sure. There's a good chance you will see some good whales. We were just a little bit on the unfortunate side. They were easier to see than the videos would suggest

Amazing experience! The Whale watch does not disappoint. Getting straight to the pint, yes, you will see whales. We saw four fin whales and four humpback whales on this trip. Funny, when a whale is spotted, everyone will shift from one side to the other. To make this easy, stand at the back of the second deck, and you will not have difficulty when needing to shift side to side. The naturalist on board was very informative as well as passionate in discussing the whales. These mammals are extraordinary.

AMAZING! The naturalists were great, the captain gave both the right and left side of the boat, opportunity to see the whales so that people weren't having to bunch together.Saw several Humpback Whales, and on our way back we even got to see North Atlantic Right Whales, which is amazing, but so sad that they are endangered.Would recommend this 3 hour whale watching tour to anyone. It will be a memory I will keep for a lifetime.

Loved this whale watching tour. Easy access right on the dock with lots of parking. The ride took about 3.5 hours and we saw over 10 whales! Bathroom and food on boat. Beautiful views of the cape and Atlantic Ocean. Sunset tour was amazing! If you’re going I’d bring a coat!

Was an excellent ride. Went in late July. Great time to go as there were many groups of humpbacks in the area. The kids loved watching the whales and we even got sprayed by a spout.Cut a little short due to weather, but we got our money's worth. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of facts and info about the whales we saw.

Dolphin Fleet in Provincetown was absolutely amazing! One of the best experiences my wife and I have ever had. We were out on the water for well over 3 hours and saw so many whales! They are also following Whale Sense regulations to make sure the whales and other animals are safe while we observe them. The guide was fantastic as well. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining the entire time we were on the boat. Highly recommend!

This was our first whale watching tour and it didn’t disappoint. The guide was very knowledgeable and they quickly pointed out whales and dolphins as we came upon them. Food and drink are available on board. They were very safety conscious throughout the charter. The water was a little choppy that day and my daughter did experience some motion sickness. The guide was attentive to her needs which was very nice. Highly recommend.

We had such a good experience!! The boat was clean, there was plenty of space for us to move around and get a better view due to the Covid restrictions… everyone was very friendly and we saw seals, a pod of dolphins, 5 whales logging or resting at the surface and a few sunfish. It was my boyfriend’s first whale watch and we both had a blast!

I could not recommend this tour more! You could tell everyone on the boat that works at Dolphin Whale Watch love and care for whales and the ocean itself. The tour guide taught us so much and it was so interesting. I had the best day, we ended up seeing somewhere between 24-29 whales, and it was my first time seeing whales! I would 100% recommend the Dolphin Whale Watch! If I'm ever back in MA I will 100% be coming back to see some more whales! Thank you all so much!

Such a great time. It's a lovely boat ride and we have seen some variety of whales every time I've been. The staff have tons of great info to share and it's really fun.

Our trip was cancelled two years ago because of bad weather. Got a refund and tried again this year. The weather was great, boarding was a snap. We spent a good amount of time traveling to the whales and they delivered! Amazing to witness these creatures so close. Just a great day for the family.

Dolphins and seals and whales, oh my!I couldn't help creating this Wizard of Oz parody when describing our whale watching trip out of P'town aboard the Dolphin Fleet s newest vessel. As we left port, we were literally surrounded by playful dolphins, some of which jumped high out of the water to the excitement of all on board. But this was just the tip of the iceberg (figuratively speaking) of our three hours at sea.In all, we saw over a dozen whales, one seal, countless dolphins, and hundreds of acrobatic seabirds, all while listening to the informative and engaging live narration by our ships naturalist. The ship itself was spotlessly clean and well maintained, with three decks, choice of shaded or sunny outdoor seating, indoor galley and tables, and plenty of railings to watch the sealife. The best part came near the entrance to the harbor on the way back when three humpback whales gracefully swam alongside the boat . Incredible!

I would highly recommend going on this whale watch, for the captain knows exactly how to find the whales and the naturalists are very informative and teach you a lot. On my most recent trip we saw many whales including a playful baby, whales eating, and several whales breaching. To top off the wonderful experience, we had a rainbow appear as we were coming into the dock. Truly an experience of a lifetime that is not to be missed, especially if you enjoy nature.

Wonderful experience. Absolutely educated staff. You can see why this is the longest running whale watch fleet off the cod.. extremely satisfied. We seen at least a half a dozen whales! Wow. Overall a beautiful time. Thank you all for doing what you do, its so very important.

Did twice this year, 7/30/2023 12:00PM and 8/12/2023 4:00PM. Best and better whale watching tour in Cape Cod. We saw all the Humpback whale behaviors in these two trips. Also saw all three common whale species: Humpback, Fin, and Minke Whales. Hope to be there again in September! Will definitely come back again. Love those whales and love the naturalist's knowledgeable speech. Captain Dennis did a great job!Updates 9/19/2023: Did the third time on 9/17/2023 2:00PM. Saw five humpback whales and heard about the appearance of some minke whales. A perfect day with some old age humpback whales. The list of sightings per our naturalist is as follows: 1 Minke Whale and 5 Humpback Whales including Ursa who is a 40 years old female, Tear who is a 34 years old male, and Arcos who is a 9 years old male.

Took a 9/1/23 Dolphin Whale Watch tour, departing noon out of Provincetown, MA. Our multi-generational family group of 8 enjoyed viewing 12-15 distinct whales, including mother-calf pairs, a breach, and amazing close encounters with whales boat-side. Our naturalist narrated the journey, providing background and details about the whales we encountered, and our skillful crew navigated 2'-4' seas to get us quickly to prime whale viewing areas. Dolphin Fleet found the whales first; other company boats all joined the party later. Our family has been visiting the Cape for decades and has been on several whale watches. Dolphin Fleet did not disappoint. Highly recommend!!

I was unsure if we would actually get to do this as it was likely to be too expensive but actually was reasonably priced and Stace my husband said yes let’s do this as he knew how much I wanted to see whales, I felt beyond excited and only ever dreamed of seeing whales, how would I ever sleep or wait until tomorrow. The following day we returned, waiting at the quay side I was so excited I felt like a child with butterflies in my tummy, I could not believe we were actually doing this and could not keep my feet still, much to Stace’s amusement. Before long we were on the boat with the naturalist introduced herself, Carolyn gave a fantastic talk, advising us of whales we could possibly see, what they eat and why they come to this area. She was brilliant, I found myself hanging on her every word as it was so interesting. I would be over the moon to see one whale and if only I knew for what was about to come. We were so extremely lucky seeing a Right Whale within minutes of getting out into the sea, Carolyn explained they are really under threat for survival with only 336 left in the world, this was a shocking statistic and she explained that most boats were not allowed within 500 feet of any Right Whales. We saw another one in the distance and a lot of excitement was growing on the boat already to see these incredible Right Whales. We travelled some distance around the Cape, then out to of the bay into a more open area of the ocean where the whales come to feed on the plankton and other small organisms. We started to see a pod of Humpback whales closer to the boat with about 2-4 in the pod, then the captain spotted another pod, so moved the boat to this pod, then on to another in the end we saw around 4 pods some with babies. All were coming up for air and we could see them so close. It was such a moving experience to see there tails coming out of water before they dived down or heads popping up were we got to hear the noise of them blowing air, it sounded so loud, a noise we will never forget. It was incredible, there were a few emotional tears as we got to experience these incredible animals in their natural habitat. We were having such a wonderful time and did not want to leave the area, Carolyn was saying that she recognised some of the humpbacks, telling us their names. As the boat started heading back to the harbour we were treated to the sight of a minky whale, a group of Atlantic white sided dolphins, we even had a seal popping its head up to say hello. Then just as we thought well that was an amazing incredible day in the distance a huge Fin whale surfaced, a much bigger whale than we had seen so far, it felt such a privilege, we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. At the same time also at a distance another Right whale surfaced then just as the boat started to turn in to the bay where the harbour was located the whales decided to give us one last surprise, a Right whale with a calf, which started breaching. The calf was having a brilliant time and looked like it was really just having fun breaching repeatedly. Carolyn relayed how rare this was to see and called it in to where they recall data whilst we were on the boat, she was so excited as this had never been recorded before. After staying out longer than was planned due to the unexpected sighting and show, we finally got back to the harbour slightly later than expected but we were over the moon, such a surreal experience to see so many whales. What a beautiful memorable day we had, It is certainly something I will never forget and will treasure close to my heart forever. As we progress on our journey (currently on a world trip on our motorbike) we come into contact with incredible people and companies like The Dolphin Fleet who do so much work to protect, record data daily of every whale they see and continually find out more about the whales in th. Thank you so much Carolyn you are amazing - a sea of knowledge and learned so much in one day. Can’t stop telling everyone how amazing the trip was and will hold it close to our hearts forever more.

We had an awesome day with Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch. We saw 8-9 humpback whales! The crew was incredibly kind and informative. We were entertained the entire time. It was especially cool to see a mom humpback and her calf!

This was an awesome addition to our trip and l highly recommend it! Excellent views, super clean boat with nice bathrooms, and a very friendly crew. Food and drink available, cash only. Bring your wind breaker. They do a great job commentating and explaining things on the way there. It was so amazing to see the whales this close. Truly a memorable experience!

What an epic adventure. Care and consideration given to these wonderful mammals. Would 100% recommend this trip. We were staying in Boston and drove round to Ptown and so glad we did. Fantastic information shared and time taken to find and tell us how to find what we were looking for.

This was an amazing experience! SO glad we did this during our time on the Cape! Our tour had numerous sightings of fin whales and humpback whales. The boat ride was smooth and comfortable and plenty of viewing spaces for everyone to capture the special moments. The naturalist who guided the tour was perfect. We even got to experience two humpback whales working together to create a bubble net just off the viewing deck area. It was truly a memory I'll never forget - seeing them up close and personal as they feasted on a school of fish they had trapped.Highly recommend this to anyone considering it. It's worth the money!

Last week we went on a whale-watching tour with Dolphin Fleet, and I have to say that it was an amazing experience. The tour was incredibly well-organized, with friendly and knowledgeable staff who made sure that everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Our guide was particularly impressive, providing us with fascinating insights into the behavior of the whales and the marine ecosystem in general. It was clear that she was passionate about her job, and her enthusiasm was infectious. The boat itself was also very comfortable, with plenty of space to move around and take in the sights. The onboard cafe was a nice touch, and it was great to be able to grab a quick snack or drink during the tour.Of course, the highlight of the tour was seeing the whales up close. It was truly a breathtaking experience to watch these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, and I felt a real sense of awe and wonder at their size and grace.Overall, I would highly recommend the whale-watching tour with Dolphin Fleet to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of the ocean and its inhabitants. It's a truly unforgettable experience that I will treasure for years to come.***Little kids' parents' tipSince the trip lasts for quite a long time (3h minimum) you might want to bring some activities on the go with you (puzzles, drawing, etc)

Best experience and highlight of our trip. We had 28-35 whale sightings. We saw humpback and then got to see a minke whale; which is rarely seen. Check out their Facebook page for much better pictures!!

We drove for 4 hours to Provincetown for our pre-booked 2.00 tour, and when we arrived, we were told it had been cancelled due to high winds! They said they sent an email at 9.30, but who reads emails whilst driving! We drove to Sands Beach, where we were told you can occasionally see whales but did not see any. However, we did see a relatively calm sea (see pictures)Later, we saw that other boats had actually gone out from different harbours around Boston, and this made us believe the trip was cancelled due to lack of bookings rather than the weather, as surely all companies listen to the same shipping forecastsSo poor communication and very unhappy customers.

Best whale watch! It foggy and rainy and the members of the dolphin fleet not only found us a whale but 4 humpbacks and 1 fin whale (i believe). The food was decent, they had medicine for seasickness at a REASONABLE price, bathrooms available, and a very very knowledgeable person telling us about the ocean and creatures. My friend who has been on 4 whale watches said "this is the best one!" I am so impressed and grateful to the team for finding us whales in such gross weather. And will definitely be back and be recommending them! ONLY thing i will say is BRING A RAIN JACKET!!! glad we did :)

This trip was soooo special. We weren't expecting to see so many whales and dolphins. The boat was clean with refreshment and restroom facilities. Staff were knowledgeable about whales and marine life with fully informative announcements throughout the trip. Well worth the money. One of the biggest highlights of our holiday.

This was one of the best parts of our Cape Cod vacation! Well worth every penny. We saw 16-20 whales on our 2pm cruise. I can't recommend this enough! The humpback whales were playful and majestic as they dove and swam and fin slapped and tail lobbed... it was really incredible. Perfect for families. The boat is plenty big and every seat was a good one. 3 hour tour. Will definitely do this one again.

The whole team at Dolphin Whale Watch are amazing. Lacy was great helping us book our trip. Captain Denis was amazing getting us close to the whales and Sophie was fantastic on the microphone with great facts about the whales. Overall a great trip and we highly recommend this company!!
